We see another specific direction
in the conversation that the Lord had with Joshua. Read the seventh and eighth verses.
"And the Lord said unto
Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel." Oh, stop a
minute. You don't mean to say, do you, that God Almighty wants a man magnified! Oh, no; it
can't be that ! We have no head but Christ Jesus !
Who was talking? (School, "The
Lord God.")
Did God say that? (School,
"Yes.")
Then is it possible that God
actually, in His sovereign will and plan, desires to magnify a leader whom He appoints,
and that people do not do wrong if they join in with him and do what their Maker does? Oh,
that lie of hell that has been belittling leaders ! I brand it as such today. God's will
is to magnify any leader that He appoints, and His pleasure is that His people follow His
example. You will never show any more honor to your God than you show to those whom God
sends to you. Christ Himself said, "He that receiveth you receiveth ME, and he that
despiseth you despiseth Me." And in the day of judgment He will
say to the people who have sneered at God's appointed leader on this holy hill,
"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren ye have done
it unto me. You have sneered at Me. Depart, ye cursed!"
Mark those words! I
put them on record for men and angels to hear; remember them; there will be a judgment day
when you will see religious leaders damned by the hundreds because of what they have
uttered against the man of God on this hill-top.
For nearly eight
years I have kept silent, making no reply to anything said or written. But the time is
coming now when the voice of God will be heard. God commissioned me in that room yonder to
"remove the covering cast over the face of all nations." I shall carry out that
commission, and my God will deal with every man, woman and child who dares to touch the
anointed of the Lord while I am doing it.
Please read the seventh and eighth
verses. "And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the
sight of all Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are
come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan." God was
giving specific directions to Joshua, and now Joshua repeats them to the people.
But supposing some very learned doctor
of divinity had risen in the congregation and said, "Well, Joshua, we don't doubt
that you are a man of God, but you are human, and I haven't any indication: from the
Spirit that you are led of God in what you are saying now; God hasn't revealed to me
anything about this matter."
Well, supposing He hasn't said
anything t.o you. God never put you an authority to lead the troops, and there is no
reason why God should send around His orders. to every private. Orders are transmitted to
the commander-in-chief and by him to his subordinates; and it is your business to hear
them as the oracles of God. If you want the Scripture for it read the Bible, which says,
"Obey them that have the rule over you," and do ii. "Submit
yourselves" to them as they that must give an account to the Commander-in-chief for
your obedience or disobedience. |
